One of the questions that may come to the minds of students participating in Work and Travel is, “How can I socialize in the States?” However, thanks to the cultural interaction, which is one of the fundamental goals of the program, participants with J1 visas who join the program will not only come from neighbouring regions of America but also from many countries around the world. Therefore, there are many ways for participants to socialize, make new friends, and take advantage of various opportunities such as attending concerts or events to socialize.
Is it possible to participate in events during work?
During the program, participants does not limit themselves to the Grace period but rather can follow concerts and events during their working period, participating in social activities with their colleagues, and experiencing an unforgettable summer, collecting priceless memories. In addition to concerts and events, it is also possible to socialize during American holidays and special celebrations, so there are endless opportunities to socialize in America.
“How can I socialize while working?”
Students can make American friends as well as fellow J1 students in the workplaces where they will work. They can share their culture and languages with them and learn about their traditions and histories. This interaction creates many opportunities for students to socialize, including in the work environment, as students can quickly realize that the work environment is, in fact, a very social place. Both Americans and other students can be very curious, so socializing continues throughout the program.
Especially in industries like restaurants, where there is a lot of communication in kitchen and oven areas, it provides students with a great way to socialize even in the workplace. This sociability in the work environment, which is not limited to the food sector, continues even if participants work in different jobs. You can discuss American films, music groups, and foods related to their culture and history with Americans. Therefore, participants can socialize even more in their jobs than they thought during their working periods.
Depending on the jobs where students are placed, they can also socialize with customers. Many customers are curious about different cultures and people, allowing our participating students to socialize and even improve their English with many people, including native speakers, firsthand.
