Although it may not come to mind first when thinking of America, the United States is a very large country composed of a total of 50 states, each of which is a state in its own right. Because there are many differences such as climate, culture, and accents from west to east, and from south to north of the country, even air travel can take a very long time. In fact, the area of just the state of Texas is almost as large as the entire country of Turkey.
Therefore, it is very important for Work and Travel students to know the characteristics of the regions they will be going to. The Edumater Pre-Flight Orientation is one of the last and most important steps for our participant students before they start their adventure in America; with the orientation, they become knowledgeable about many aspects of America and are prepared for their travels. This will be the first step they take for an amazing summer!
What are the main topics?
Students are prepared for their travel with various topics such as general cultural differences in America, flights and transfers, finding a second job; post-landing I-94 registration, SSN application, and how to use their health insurance. Additionally, topics such as where and how the student can travel, what should be in their suitcase, what they can carry on flights, and what items they can bring back from America will be main topics. Given that we are talking about America, going to the Work and Travel program without being oriented can make the process in America quite challenging. Therefore, beyond the mandatory participation of the student, the orientation provides many benefits to the student and is necessary for them to have a productive program.
How long will the orientation last? Where will it be held?
The orientation will last approximately 2 to 3 hours, and there will be a question-and-answer session at the end so that students can ask their own questions. The location will be at the Ramada Hotel in Tunalı, which is very accessible.
Will those going to the same job be able to meet?
Yes, students going to the same region and even the same job can meet here and have the opportunity to prepare plans for the summer, including transportation to their workplaces.
