To participate in the Work and Travel program, you must have a J-1 visa and all passport holders must apply for this visa. In the second part of our series, you will find answers to your questions about the visa process.
• I have a green passport, I can go to America without a visa.
All passport holders are required to obtain a J-1 visa for the program.
• It is more difficult/easier to get a visa from Ankara or Istanbul.
Both authorities issue visas within their annual quotas. One is not more difficult or easier than the other.
• My visa has a validity of 2 years, I can use this visa the next year.
Visas are printed according to the student’s legal study dates. However, in some exceptional cases, it also happens that a 2-year visa is issued. The student cannot use this visa the following year.
• With my American visa, I can go to Canada or Europe during the program.
The American visa is used only for entry to the United States. In order to enter a different country, you also need to have a visa of that country.
• I must leave the country on my visa expiry date.
The J-1 visa is a visa issued according to legal work requirements. However, you have the right to travel within the USA for 30 days after the end date.
• I cannot get my program fee refunded if I get a visa refusal.
If you receive a visa refusal, your pre-registration fee will be paid in accordance with the contract and the remaining payment will be refunded to you.
