We came to the fun but stressful part before leaving Turkey! Did I forget something? Did I buy it, too? Does this work? Is that extra? We wanted to make it less stressful by making a small checklist during a period when questions were asked.
1- FIRST KNOW THE EXACT INFORMATION ABOUT THE LUGGAGE WEIGHT LIMIT
The luggage allowance, which varies between airline companies, is something you should definitely pay attention to when buying your ticket. If your luggage exceeds the limit, you will have to pay an extra fee. These extra fees vary according to each company. Not exceeding the limit, and knowing how many pieces of luggage are allowed is the most important rule to be followed when preparing suitcases before the flight.
2. LET’S GO TO CLOTHING
You should know the weather conditions of the region you are going to and put your clothes accordingly. If your employer asked you to bring clothes, for example, black pants or black shoes, you should definitely put them in. You may not be able to find time to wear other kinds of clothes because you will be wearing your work clothes while working for the first 3 months, and plus you may try not to take too many clothes, considering that you will shop a lot there. You will find that you can buy very nice brand clothes and shoes for very cheap there.
3. COSMETICS AND BASIC CARE MATERIALS
You may not have time to shop right away, so you can take with you materials such as shampoo, toothbrush, and toothpaste that will keep you running for a short time. But don’t take everything from here because you can find it easily there anyway.
4. MEDICINES
Apart from the medicines you always use, you should also take medicine with you for emergencies, if any. Buying medicine from the pharmacy is not a simple thing. Therefore, you should definitely have products such as painkillers, cold medicine, antibiotics, stomach protectors, and burn creams with you.
5. PERSONAL ITEMS
You can take towels, sheets, and pillowcases with you, provided they are absolutely thin and light. Of course, they will provide it from there, but if you are someone who cares about this kind of meticulousness, you can take it with you.
6. TECHNOLOGICAL ITEMS
Be sure to take at least one socket converter with you, keeping in mind that the sockets are different. It is also worth remembering that the voltage is low. Hairstyling devices or similar tools that you bring may not work very well. You are already going to a place where electronic goods are very cheap, and buying new ones can be a very good option.
7. DOCUMENTS
We recommend that you make at least 2 copies of the documents that you should carry with you and should never lose, just like your identity card. Your passport, DS2019 form and SEVIS are at the top of these documents. If your luggage is lost, copies of these documents must be found elsewhere. Again, considering the loss of your luggage, we recommend that you divide your pocket money in this way.
8. PERSONALIZE YOUR LUGGAGE
You can get a luggage tag. Writing your information on it will make it easier for you to find it and make it easier for you if it gets lost.
Finally, do not forget that you are going to America and you can easily reach and buy anything you want there. It is very useful not to take too many items with you, as you will shop and want to fill your luggage with new ones.
