In the Work and Travel program, there are various job opportunities suitable for participants, including restaurants, entertainment and water parks, hotels and resorts, supermarkets, and lifeguard positions.
Jobs in these sectors are further divided into various positions. The choice of position depends on the opening and closing dates in your school’s academic calendar, your English proficiency, and the suitability and intensity of the position. While these criteria are important in job selection, the participant’s preferences and desires are also taken into account to make the most suitable choice.
Apart from positions, the United States differs significantly from Turkey in terms of geography, climate, social, and cultural aspects. Moreover, as it encompasses many states, each state has its own unique differences. Therefore, depending on the state, each position may have different advantages that you may not find in another. Consequently, it is most beneficial for the participant not to limit themselves to a single position or region, allowing them to evaluate all possible options and choose the most suitable and advantageous job. Hourly wages are also an important criterion in job selection, but it is advisable not to base the decision solely on hourly wages. Depending on the state or position, a job may have different advantages or disadvantages aside from the hourly wage. For example, when evaluating details such as accommodation or meals, another job may suddenly become more appealing. In this regard, when deciding on a job, you should go through the entire process with your advisor and choose the job that is most suitable for you in consultation with them so that you can have a more productive summer in America than you imagined.
