We have compiled the mistakes known to the students about Work and Travel program for you below. In the first part of our series, you will find answers to your questions about the program and the registration process.
- I can register for the program at any time.
The Work &Travel program is a program that covers the summer months. November December at the latest, you must have completed your registration, taking into account job choices, interviews, visa processes and, most importantly, quotas. Registering early in the program is important both in terms of not being affected by the price increase and the chance to see and evaluate jobs early.
- The Work &Travel program is a money-making or language learning program.
The Work &Travel program is a cultural exchange program organized by the American government. You work the weekly legal working hours assigned to you and receive your pay according to your working hours. In order to enroll in the program, you must have a sufficient level of English. During the program, you can further your speaking practice with native English speakers, whom we call “native speakers”, and Work & Travel students from other countries.
- I can find my own job and participate in the program individually.
The Work & Travel program is a program run and controlled by the American government. Not every job or every region is eligible for the program coverage. Jobs are offered through the government and sponsors in a way that is appropriate for the nature of the program. In addition, sponsors work with authorized agents, not with students. Therefore, we cannot participate in the program with the jobs we find individually.
- I can work in a job related to the department I studied in Turkey.
The program is aimed only at working in the tourism and service sector. Students can usually work in places such as hotels, restaurants, water parks, amusement parks, markets.
- My accommodation fee is included in my program fee.
Accommodation fees are not included in the program fees. Accommodation is charged separately on a weekly or monthly basis. It is regularly paid by students after arrival in America. Some employers may request a month’s accommodation or deposit fee in advance before the arrival date.
