Tax Refund Process
You have completed the Work & Travel Program. How will you get your tax refund? Here are the details.
Students participating in the Work and Travel program earn an income while they work in the USA. They are subject to both Federal and State taxes due to the income they generate. However, these taxes may differ from state to state.
You can take a look at the details about the Tax Refund Process.
In the paychecks you have received, it is stated how much tax you have paid. If you are not a citizen or resident of the country you are in almost anywhere in the world, you will get back some of the taxes you paid during your temporary stay. For this reason, students who have completed the Work&Travel program and returned are also entitled to a refund of a certain part of the taxes they paid.

You can start your tax refund process 1 or 2 months after you return. The tax period in the USA ends on December 31, and your refund is calculated on January 1 and transactions are started. Your tax refund is sent to you between 90-120 days in standard procedure.
According to the latest law, all Work and Travel participants can get their State tax back but their Federal Tax may not be paid back. The distinction here is your tax and earnings rate. If the Federal tax paid by Work and Travel participants is 10% of their total earnings, students cannot get this type of tax back. Work and Travel participants with more than 10% Federal tax deducted are eligible to receive Federal tax.
